Pupil Premium
At St George's Catholic Primary School we are committed to providing a quality education that enables all our pupils to reach their full potential. Our school's vision and values, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, guide us in supporting our disadvantaged pupils and closing the attainment gap between them and their peers.
Supporting Disadvantaged Pupils
As a primary school, we have been allocated £101,860 in Pupil Premium funding for the current academic year (2024/25). This funding allows us to implement a range of targeted interventions and support measures to ensure our disadvantaged pupils receive the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Targeted Interventions
- Our class teachers are provided with dedicated time to work one-on-one with children for pre-teaching and reinforcement of concepts.
- Eligible pupils have access to special literacy enrichment activities to boost their skills and confidence.
- We offer learning and behaviour mentoring to address individual needs and barriers to learning and support mental health.
- Additional one-on-one reading opportunities are provided to ensure all our pupils develop strong literacy foundations.
Extracurricular and Enrichment
- We ensure that no child misses out on extracurricular or musical activities due to financial constraints, with Pupil Premium funding used to cover the costs.
- A special homework club has been established for our Year 6 pupils to provide additional support and guidance as they prepare for their next steps.
- Pupil Premium funding is used to facilitate participation in enrichment activities that support learning and promote engagement.
- We have introduced a special book club to foster a love of reading and provide access to high-quality literature.
Practical Support
- Where needed, we provide eligible families with support in purchasing school uniforms to ensure all our pupils feel included and proud to be part of the St George's community.
At the heart of our Pupil Premium strategy is a commitment to our school's values of justice, forgiveness, love, respect, and trust. By investing in our disadvantaged pupils, we aim to empower them to reach their full potential and become confident, complete, and loving individuals, ready to make a positive impact on the world.
The pupil premium funding has resulted in positive outcomes for eligible children at St George's:
- Children in upper key stage 2 that are disadvantaged made significantly greater progress than their peers nationally, closing the gap in attainment.
- 13% of eligible children attained the higher standard in Reading, writing and maths combined compared with a 10% average for all children.
- Average scaled scores in Reading were higher for our disadvantaged pupils in the key stage 2 tests (110.9) compared to other children (106.2)
- Our one to one strategy has ensured that teachers have an in-depth knowledge of their pupil premium children, enabling them to plan for them in a much more informed way
- Many children eligible for pupil premium funding were able to begin to play a musical instrument.
- No children eligible for pupil premium funding missed educational visits for financial reasons.
